Wondering what separates Safe Path from all the others
driving schools?
Unfortunately, many driving
schools only exist just for the road test day, but
the reality is you'll need and want to drive safely after
the 45 minute road test. So it's important to choose A Safe
Path to Driving.
Consider this research when choosing
the correct driving school for your loved one- "An
Excerpt from The Injury Prevention Foundation states that
new and younger drivers trained in emergency maneuvers
(as offered by some driving schools) actually have a higher
crash rate than those without such training! It has been suggested
that training new drivers, particularly in emergency maneuvers
and collision avoidance techniques, fosters overconfidence
and thereby increases risk rather than reduces it. An
explanation for these findings is that advanced skills training
leads to overconfidence which may eliminate normally
cautious behavior. It can also result in a greater willingness
to put oneself at risk. For example, graduates of advanced
skill courses (emergency maneuvers and collision avoidance
techniques) will be less reluctant to drive in adverse conditions
because they are confident that they can handle them."
Several letters have been sent to ICBC over a year
ago requesting them to make a change. Parents also understand
that new drivers, especially young ones, have extremely high
crash rates. A major reason that young drivers are over represented
in road crashes is because they are inexperienced, lacking
the necessary driving skills and capabilities. This is not
surprising because driving is a complex, self paced activity
involving a myriad of basic tasks (for example, steering,
braking) and higher order skills (for example, hazard perception,
problem solving), many of which are essential to safe vehicle
operation.
Don’t choose the wrong driving school for this important
milestone.
